Adoption Narrative Shift is a 11-episode documentary series hosted by Dr. Abigail K. Hasberry, LMFT/LCMFT, BCC. Each episode centers a different group within the adoption constellation in honest, intimate conversation. Siblings. Partners. Children of adoptees. Grandparents. Professionals. Birth parents. The people estranged. The people who never searched.
This is the conversation that has always needed to happen. We are putting it on camera.

WHAT IT IS
Adoption Narrative Shift: Nothing About Us Without Us is a documentary film series created and hosted by Dr. Abigail K. Hasberry. Grounded in her book Adopting Privilege and in her own experience as an adoptee, therapist, and coach, the series centers honest, unscripted conversations across the adoption constellation.
Each episode focuses on a different group whose life has been shaped by adoption but who rarely gets to tell their own story: adoptees, birth parents, siblings, partners, children of adoptees, grandparents, professionals, and more.
The Problem We Are Solving
The stories we hear about adoption are almost always told by the people who built the system: agencies, courts, and adoptive parents. Adoptees are grateful. Birth parents made a sacrifice. Love is enough.
These stories can be true. And they leave out almost everything that matters.
The grief. The identity fracture. The loyalty binds. The reunion complexity. The siblings who grew up alongside the story without ever being in it. The partners who had to figure out what loving an adoptee actually required. The grandparents who carried decades of secrecy. The professionals who were never adequately trained.
This series holds all of it. Without resolution. Without a tidy ending. With the people inside the experience finally in the room.

Adoption Narrative Shift is built on a single commitment: the adoption story belongs to the people who lived it. Not the people who built the system around it.
